Run Down

Posted by mvetack on November 30, 2010

Welcome to the run down, just a semi organized post of stuff I gotta talk about in sports.  Here we go…

Gilbert Arenas is back.  He may not be Agent Zero or Gilzero but his game is back!  With or without John Wall he is scoring the ball like its 2006 again.  Basketball is just better when the new number 9 is a top player.  I am not just saying this because I have his autographed shoe and jersey, but he is just an entertaining player to watch.  Its good to see his game talking for him and not his over the top antics.  The funny stories and practical jokes are cool but we all know he went over the top with the whole gun thing.  The Wizards have a nice little group of guys this year even if one of them (Arenas) is making more than the Florida Marlins.  Gilbert and Wall make a good pair of guards with Hinrich off the bench.  JaVale McGee is having a year closer to the expectations when he came into the league.  Blatche has continued his good play since Gil went down last year.  If you haven’t selected all 7 of your league pass teams take a look at the Wiz.

Derek Anderson and the Cardinals had an embarrassing showing on Monday Night Football.  If you have a TV, internet, or twitter, I am sure you have caught the video of Derek Anderson laughing on the sidelines during a blowout and then blowing up (Mentos and coke style, not Mount Vesuvius style) during the post game presser.  For one I don’t think laughing and joking on the sideline is that big of a deal even in a losing effort.  Yea this is their job and they are getting paid big money to do what most of us would love to do on a weekly basis, but its ok to have a laugh, smile, or chuckle despite whats happening on the field.  Maybe he should just wear all black (they were wearing the alternate black tops last night) and mourn until next Sunday.  Your watching a grown man playing a game!  What do you expect.  Hes playing a sport for a living, its not the most serious and important thing in the world.  The Cardinals were not losing a playoff game or an early season game, they have 3 wins and its week 12.  Probably not going anywhere this season.

Blake Griffin is a bona fide all star.  In a league with not a lot of dominate centers, Blake Griffin is making his case for starting in the all star game.  He is not just dominating the highlight reel with send all your friends youtube clips dunks, he is putting up around 20 and 10 daily, nightly, and ever so rightly.  Blake has been well worth the year long wait.  Their is finally a reason to watch the Clipp show even if they lose by 10 or 20.

Besides Derek Anderson’s laugh on the sideline last night, MNF was the stage for a premier player going down for the season.  That would be San Fran’s bulldozer Frank Gore.  The Niners were ripping off 10 yards a clip with Gore in the back field as he was well on his way to a career game.  On just 5 carries in the first quarter Gore had 52 yards.  Suddenly Gore was seen jogging to the locker room.  Gore came back the next possession for one carry for about 11 yards and looked like he would come back to get the 150 to 200 yards  he was on pace for.  Then he was seen shaking his head, helmet off, talking to coach Singletary back on the sideline.  While grimacing on the sideline Gores back up and former Eagle great Brian Westbrook eclipsed 100 yards to go with a score.  Twitterverse was flooded with, Gore is a wimp… Get in the Game Gore… I just need a couple more Fantasy points Gore come on!  And some other NSFW pleads for Frank.  Gore is now out for the season with a hip injury and killing Fantasy Nerds playoff hopes everywhere.  Including mine.

Andre Johnson and Cortland Finnegan went at it NFL Blitz style.  Remember sitting on the basement floor with your brother for hours late hitting Emmitt Smith with your favorite line backer?  Then you loved the “fisticuffs”, as ESPN calls it, that occurred in the Texans vs Titans blowout.  Its always fun when a hockey fight breaks out in a football game.  Helmets flying and fists throwing ended with ejections and 50K into the NFL’s bank account.  Andre won the fight over the Josh Koscheck – DJ Pauly D combo in Finnegan.

Derrick Rose and Russell Westbrook are the two guys I would pay the most to see play live.  These are two of the top players in the league right now and should be leading sportscenter on a daily/nightly basis.  No one is quicker than either won and both dunk in track and finish near the hoop better than most players can finish a free throw.  Russ Wes is taking over the Thunder from his bff Durant while Rose is putting the city of Chicago on his shoulders and can’t wait until the Booze Cruise Carlos gets in the lineup.

The Alphabet game

Posted by mvetack on October 19, 2010

Heres a little thing I saw on SBnation.com (a great website by the way).  They do review of the sports weekend using the alphabet.  So I am taking a shot at it.  Here we go!

A is for Andrei Arshavin. Andrei Arshavin is interviewed for Arsenal TV and answers some non soccer related questions with some interesting answers.  Take a look.

B is for Benched. The Carolina Panthers are going back to Matt Moore after giving the Jimmy Clausen experiment a try.  Clausen looked like a rookie for the Panthers and for now will watch the games from the sideline.

C is for Cliff Diving. Junior Seau, former San Diego and Patriots Linebacker, had a rough weekend.  First he was arrested in a domestic dispute with his wife, then he fell asleep at the wheel and drove his car over a cliff suffering minor injuries.

D is for Double Dip. San Francisco Giants corner outfielder Cody Ross tagged Roy Halladay for two home runs in game one of the NLCS on the way to a 4-3 Giants victory.

E is for ERA 5.26 After falling behind two games to one against the Texas Rangers, the Yankees are in desperate need of a win and turn to AJ Burnett and his season era of 5.26, good luck Yanks.

F is for Freshman! Freshman! Number 5 ranked and undefeated Nebraska took on unranked and struggling Texas on Saturday.  Nebraska’s Freshman QB and early Heisman candidate Taylor Martinez had a rough game going 4 for 12 passing for just 63 yards and rushing for just 21 yards on 13 carries.  The Huskers lost 20-13 and might have said good bye to the Heisman and National Championship hopes.

G is for the Goulet Awards. Minnesota Twins Starting Pitcher Carl Pavono is a finalist for 2010’s “Robert Goulet Memorial Mustached American of the Year”  On why Pavano was selected as a finalist, the American Mustache Institute said,

“Many thought Carl Pavano’s baseball career was done. And then hegrew a mustache. Since then, he resurrected his career with a 17-11 record in 2010, 3.75 ERA, and a Central Division Championship. His Pavstache single handedly brought the popularity of lip garments back to Minnesota and powered the team into the 2010 playoffs.”

H is for Hossa. The defending Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks were picked by most experts to drop off from last year after letting go many pieces of their championship team.  Marian Hossa is doing all he can to keep the Blackhawks in the Elite of the NHL.  Hossa scored 2 goals in 2:31 seconds of the the third period on the way to a win over the St. Louis Blues.  Hossa leads the NHL with 7 goals.

I is for Illegal Hits. After many NFL players went down with injuries on blows to the head on Sunday, all over the sports websites and ESPN this morning are talking about the leagues stance on trying to enforce the rules of illegal helmet to helmet hits with greater effectiveness.  A possible one game suspension is in the works and the debate begins of whether or not this is appropriate for a game that prides itself on toughness and big hits.

J is for Jacked up! Eagles young Wide Receiver DeSean Jackson got his head knocked off and out of this country on Sunday by Atlanta Falcons Dunta Robinson.

K is for K’s. K’s as in Cliff Lee and his bakers dozen of them vs the Yankees in game three of the the ALCS.  Cliff Lee is looking like the greates post season pitcher we have seen in a looooong time and has his Rangers up 2 games to 1 over the team from New York.

L is for Lee. Cliff Lee’s performance on Sunday was so good it had to be talked about again.  I still can not get over what a game Cliff Lee had vs the Rangers.  His ERA in the playoffs is now 1.26 and he is 7-0.  Put a ring on that and he very well could be the greatest playoffs pitcher of all time.

M is for Midnight Madness. This past weekend was the opening night of college basketball.  With teams able to practice for the first time, college campuses across the country were up all night watching their respective teams host slam dunk contests, dance offs, introduce new players, shave coaches heads, and give away prizes.

N is for Newton. No not Sir Isaac, were talking Cam.  Auburns freakishly big Quarterback Cam Newton, has the Tigers undefeated and atop the SEC after a crushing of the Arkansas Razorbacks.  Auburn won the game 65 to 43 lead by Cameron Newton.  Newton was 10 of 14 for 140 yards and a touchdown and added 148 yards rushing and 3 TDs.  I smell a Heisman.

O is for O-H-I-O. Everyone has seen a story on or even a commercial with the students of Ohio State doing the YMCA hand gestures with OHIO on campus.  I doubt there is much of that going on going to class this week.  Number 1 Ohio State lost this weekend by 13 to Big Ten foe Wisconsin.

P is for Phillies Anti Lincecum. Game one of the NLCS matched up Tim Lincecum and Roy Halladay.  One of the greatest pitching match ups we have seen in the playoffs in recent memory.  Lincecum got the best of Halladay and the Phillies despite the creative signs by Phillies fans.

Q is for Quick. This is the only way to describe the pace in which Peyton Manning was working on Sunday Night vs the Washington Redskins.  The Colts offense was regularly snapping the ball with around 26 seconds left on the play clock.  Manning was in the zone in the first half on Sunday Night.  Manning went for over 200 yards and 2 TDs in the first half making it look easy.  The Colts won the game and share first place in the division.

R is for Riding Bitch. Phillies first base slugger Ryan Howard was seen on FOX’s telecast of NFL football advertising that nights Phillies Giants game.  Howard was shown riding bitch on the Phillie Phanatic’s ATV on the way to the stadium for his game that night.  Terezowens.com with the pic

S is for Slim Chin. Two more great ads for basketball shoes.  Those shoe companies sure know how to do it.  Slim Chin is the new Opulence guy.

T is for Tim Tebow. Tebow got in the game and on the board for the Denver Broncos in their crushing loss to the Jets.  Tebow ran it in from five yards out.  Meanwhile his college team is really missing him this year as they drop to 4-3 with a 10-7 loss to Mississippi State.

U is for Unhappy. That seems to be Wayne Rooney’s mood right now as he has expressed the desire to leave Manchester United.  His coach Alex Ferguson has confirmed the reports that Rooney wants out of Man U.

V is for Velasquez vs Brock Lesnar. This coming weekend is UFC 121 and the hype began this past weekend.  Brock Lesnar will be defending his Heavyweight belt vs Velaszquez who is looking to become the first Mexican title holder.

W is for World Cup Inspiration. The World Cup and soccer as a whole may be inspiring young college kids during midnight madness this year.  It is reported by yahoo.com’s College Basketball blog Dagger that the new thing in college dunk contests is the heel flick slam.  Duke’s Casey Peters and Miles Plumlee combined for it at their Midnight Madness and so did Buffalo’s Mitchell Watt.

X is for Xtra Time. (yea kind of a cop out on the spelling).  A couple AFC East games went to extra time.  Both the Dolphins vs Packers and the Patriots vs the Ravens games ended with the Phins and Pats winning 23-2.

Y is for Yipee, Yay, and Yahoooooo. This is what owners of Chris Johnson were likely screaming when Jeff Fisher left his star RB in the game on 4th and5 under 2 minutes in a blowout win over the Jaguars.  Johnson busted a long TD run on the last play of the game for the Titans flipping fantasy match up scores on their ear in the process.

Z is for Zigtech. John Wall is the newest athlete promoting shoes with Reebok’s Zigtech technology.  Ochocinco, Sidney Crosby, and Peyton Manning are a few of the other Zig guys, and now it is rookie John Wall with his own Zigtech Basketball shoe.  here is a look at his special Gold Rush version of the shoe you will see Wall wearing on the hardwood  this season.

Best and Worst of the Weekend

Posted by mvetack on September 20, 2010

Worst of the Weekend

Iowa’s offensive line on the final drive vs Arizona.  Iowa charged back while everyone was sleeping thinking they got smoked, and tied the game late in the 4th quarter.  Arizona took the lead with about 2 minutes left to play.  Iowa had to make one drive to keep their BCS championship hopes alive.  Instead, they got NFL Blitzed for 4 straight sacks to start the drive.  The first came on 3 straight heavy blitzes and the final sack on 4th down came on a 4 man rush.

The Patriots second half vs the Jets resulted in 3 turnovers, no points, and very little yards.  After one half of football the Patriots lead the Jets 14 – 10 and appeared to have no problem moving the ball on offense.  Moss made an amazing touchdown grab, Welker was catching passes, and the running game was looking respectable.  Once both teams came out of the tunnel for the second half things changed.  Brady threw a carer high 6 straight completions including two interceptions and fumbled away a last gasp effort to make a comeback in the red zone.

The Colorado Rockies blew an early 6-1 lead to the Dodgers and lost in extras 7-6.  The Rockies are in the middle of a playoff race for both the division and the wild card.  They can not afford to let games get away from them at this point in the season.  Every game and every inning counts.  The off season could be a long and dreadful one for the Rockies if this game causes them to miss the playoffs.

Best of the Weekend

Troy Tulowitzki is having the best month baseball has ever seen.  In his last 16 games Tulo has whacked 14 home runs and is making a late charge at the MVP.  Tulo hit three of those 14 HRs over the weekend to keep the Rockies in the playoff hunt.  It is sad that so many people are in NFL and College football mode right now because the Giants, Padres, and Rockies are in quite the late season battle and Tulo is doing something you may never see again.

Jahvid Best had a week one and NFL debut to forget last week vs the Bears but more than made up for it on Sunday.  Jahvid had 78 rush yards and 2 TDs to go along with 154 recieving yards and a 75 yard receiving TD.  If Best can perform any where near this on a weekly basis, the Lions look to have quite the future with Stafford, Johnson, and Best on the offensive side of the ball.  Jahvid did all he could do in a tough loss to the Eagles.

Michael Vick got his first start in the NFL since 2006. Boy did he take advantage of it.  Not only did Vick make highlight play after highlight play teaming up with DeSean Jackson, he also put together a 21 for 34 for 284 yard day in the air for 2 TDs and 37 yards on the ground.  Vick did all he could to take over the Eagles in a victory on Sunday.  If only Andy Reid would do what every non PETA football fan wants and hand him the rains to the team.

Best and Worst of the weekend

Posted by mvetack on September 14, 2010

Stealing a page from Dan Patrick’s terrific radio show (6 foot 170) no not that.. ding!… I mean their “Best and Worst” of the weekend portion of the show.  I ll do three of each.

Worst of the weekend

The fact that Calvin Johnson’s potential game winning Touch down was not ruled a catch and allowed the Bears to hold on for the victory.  Everyone has seen the play by now and most agree that Calvin made a nice grab.  Yes I guess the odd and newly implemented rule was followed in this case but the rule doesnt really seem to work when you look at the play and you know its a catch.  Rules are supposed to be implemented to make sure the right thing is happening or call is made.  Does not make sense to have a rule that goes against common sense.

Tashard Choice getting the ball stripped from him on the final play of the first half on Sunday Night.  In a low scoring battle, DeAngelo Hall stripped Choice and then took one to the house as time expired.  The Cowboys had their video game hats on while deciding to go for a last second hail mary of sorts that resulted in a dump down to the Cowboys rb.  The Skins would never find the end zone again and didn’t need to as they held on for a 13 – 7 victory.

Virginia Tech losing to Division II James Madison.  James Madison is a pretty good football program, for division II.  Virginia Tech is dangerously close to making what is now a very disappointing season into a potential program hurting season.  Va Tech has to regain its swagger and go on a win streak in the coming weeks.  A BCS bowl is still very possible.  Va Tech needs to focus on the ACC and winning that conference.

Best of the Weekend

Denard Robinson torching my Notre Dame Fighting Irish.  Although he was slowed down for most of the second half, he commanded a last minute drive to send the Wolverines to 2-0.  Robinson totaled over 500 yards of offense and should Michigan continue to win, is a heavy favorite for the early season Heisman.

Arian Foster and the Texans absolutely dominated the Colts on the ground on their way to a statement in division win on Sunday.  Arian Foster rattled off 231 yards and 3 TDs as the Texans did everything perfect to open up huge running lanes for their new star in the making.  The Colts rush D is definately something that needs to be fixed or they are going to have a hard time beating anyone.  The Colts should be fine as long as they have Peyton but that D has got to make some changes quick.

Captain America Kevin Durant and his teammates performance in Turkey.  Team USA took down host Turkey in the FIBA Championships and earned the first qualifying spot for the 2012 Olympics.  Durant lead the way with 38 points and a new U.S. record for points against Lithuania to advance to the Finals.  In the Championship game Durant added 28 as team USA coasted to a 81 to 64 victory over Turkey.

18 thoughts about Vikings vs Saints opener

Posted by mvetack on September 9, 2010

NFL is back!  I love all sports but every time a sport is back I put basically everything on the back burner to enjoy the beginnings of a new season. Tonight is the night we get to enjoy the violence and beauty of the NFL.  A rematch of the NFC championship game is our treat tonight on NBC.  Vikings vs Saints, Brees vs Favre, Purple vs Gold.  Here is some stuff to pay attention, look for, and enjoy tonight.

1.  Your ears may bleed because of how loud the defending champion Saints crowd will be throughout the game and as they reveal the Super Bowl Banner.

2.  Yes you will hear about Hurricane Katrina again.

3.  Brett Favre’s hometown is sure to come up at some point, maybe not as many times they discuss Favre INT vs the Saints last year but it will be mentioned.

4.  Reggie Bush is always a threat to make a sportscenter leading Highlight.

5.  Percy Harvin may do the same thing for the Vikings, if he is not in the locker room with a Migraine.

6.  I have suffered from migraines my whole life (well since I was like 10).   They Suck, and it really is tough to do anything with one besides sleep and throw up.

7.  Favre did not play too much in the preseason and joined late.  How does he take the first couple of hits

8.  Adrian Peterson, or Purple Jesus, says he has solved his fumbling problems.  I will believe it when I see it.

9.  Peterson, next to Chris Johnson, is the most entertaining RB to watch when he his getting going.  Many times he gets it going in the second half.  Like I need to tell you, but watch Peterson especially later in the game.

10.  Crowd shots Galore

11.  Please be a close game, no one likes a blowout on opening day.

12.  Dave Matthews Band and Taylor Swift will perform during the NBC pregame show.

13.  Is NBC still calling their super zoom motion replay thing NBCeeeee it?  I thought that was what they called it during Jerry Siendfeld’s “Bee Movie”?

14.  Chances of a 6-3 game?  -55%.

15.  My Superbowl pick is Denver over Saints.  My non homer pick is Colts over Saints.

16.  Brett Favre still throws the ball harder than half the QBs in the league.  And he has a gray beard.

17.  I am so glad Brees is on the Saints, rooted against him in Purdue, for the Chargers, and now I root for him.

18.  No one cares about other peoples Fantasy teams so I will not tell you that I have Drew Brees and the Saints Defense tonight.  Your Welcome.

36 Random Observations from Week one of College Football

Posted by mvetack on September 7, 2010

First off I had to work till 5 on Saturday (dumb) so some stuff I saw on highlights, some on Tivo, and some live.  So here we go…

1.  Week one of college football is great but it still sucks that half the games are terrible “pre season” match ups for some of the higher ranked teams.  See Alabama vs San Jose St.

2. Mark May still annoys me.

3.  The Lou Holtz Lisp is better than ever.

4.  What happened to Tate Forcier?

5. Like most people, I hate how college football is set up without a tournament or posts eason of any kind.  With that said, the current set up does produce extra energy and desperation in big games week one in the season that you do not see in the NFL.

6. TCU vs Oregon State, ECU vs Tulsa, and Boise State vs Va Tech were the three best game of the week.

7.  Kellen Moore looks similar to that of a donkey, but he can ball.

8.  ECU’s center field logo of the state of North Carolina filled in with the purple and gold pirate was pretty sweet.

9.  Navy is PATHETIC for having all those empty red zone trips.  A couple made FGs and they easily beat Maryland.

10.  TCU’s Jeremy Kerley and South Carolina’s Marcus Lattimore are the front runners of coolest names in college football.

11.  Presbyterian’s backwards skip pass was the most creative play of the week and maybe the year.

12.  If Jacory Harris does win the Heisman like so many people say he has a chance at, will he be the skinniest to ever win the award?

13.  South Carolina’s balanced attack, against SouthernMiss, was pretty impressive.  It was only Southern Miss but still looked better than they have in previous season openers.

14.  Utah quietly is good again.  Took down number 15 Pitt in Overtime.  Watch out for the Utes!

15.  3 of the Combat uniforms were shown off on prime time nationally televised games.  I’m guessing thats when all the teams will show them off.

16.  TCU’s combat unis were alright.  Nothing special.  I like the whit helmets but those will for sure be on some list 20 years of now of grossest uniforms in sports.

17.  Virginia Tech’s reminded both me and my brother of Halloween Jerseys.  The “motherboard” type imagery in the numbers on Tech’s jerseys looked like flames from a distance.  I love Virginia Tech’s normal jerseys with the maroon.  Kinda cool for one night though.

18.  Boise State’s grew on me.  I wish there was a little more Orange in there some where or that you could read the Boise State on the chest a little bettter (maybe thats where the orange should have come in).  The helmets were awesome and overall I like them more than their normal ones.  Good work on that one Nike.

19.  Kirk Herbstreit is turning into quite the announcer.  Really liking him in the booth with Brent Musburger.

20.  Really upset I went to bed, due to work at 7 AM, before the final of the Tarheels LSU game.   I guess the Heels made a charge.

21.  Florida, that was pathetic.

22. Notre Dame looked pretty good.  Not dominate, not amazing, but like a respectable team.  Could make some noise this year.

23.  Was waiting for Boise State, Virginia Tech, or TCU to score a touchdown and put their gloves together to show off the cool little image it creates.  Didn’t see it happen though.

24.  Georgia Tech is Navy but with very athletic and high caliber recruits.  Tech was 2 of 8 for 12 total passing yards but still put up 41 points.  372 yards of rushing helps.

25.  Jacksonville State for twoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!

26.  Tyrod Taylor did EVERYTHING for Virginia Tech.  It is a shame that one week into the season and he does not have a realistic chance at playing for a National Title because of the stupid BCS set up.  Losing to the number 3 team in the nation in early September should not knock you out of contention.

27.  Denard Robinson is the new Pat White.  Notre Dame is going to have to make the guy throw early.  Letting Michigan have success running the ball early will open up the play action for Robinson.  Shut down the run early will make Robinson pass on passing downs and show that he is not a great passing QB.

28.  In NCAA Football 06-08 video games, North Texas would always become a top 5 team a couple years down the road.  I am still waiting for that to happen in real life.  A 35-10 loss to Clemson does not help.

29.  I want Kansas State’s Daniel Thomas on my NFL teams (Broncos) depth chart at Running Back.

30.  Oregons uniforms once again are my favorite.  Love the gray pants and the feathers are back on the shoulders.  Very nice Oregon Very Nice.

31.  USC’s number one QB going into last season (Corp) made his debut for the Richmond Spiders.  18-32 for 183 and no TDs.  Virginia pulled away in the second half.

32.  Oklahoma won by only 7 vs Utah State?!?!?! really??? wow.  Not Impressed.

33.  Army won people.  Watch out.

34.  Momentum means nothing,  with how quick it can change (see Boise vs Va Tech) does it really exist after all?

35.  ECU’s hail mary to 6 foot 8 – 974 pound WR was an amazing end to a video game type football game.  I think it was 10 straight possessions with TDs.  Simply awesome.

36.  Julio Jones made a great one handed catch, still I think he is over rated.

Good, not the best, guys to draft from each NFL team pt. 3

Posted by mvetack on August 19, 2010

Cleveland Browns

Jerome Harrison flirted with his first 1000 yard season coming up just short of 9oo yards.  He has the speed and agility to make a big play at any moment but it does seem that he needs those big plays to get a majority of his yards and scores. He could get you a just a couple points one week and then threaten to lead RBs in points the next week.  Those big weeks will be there the tough part is selecting which weeks those will be.

St. Louis Rams

Donnie Avery is in his third season and that tends to be the breakout season for Wide Receivers (of they are any good anyway).  Donnie has gone up slightly in his first two seasons in both receptions and yards and hopes to continue that trend this season.  With top overall pick Sam Bradford in town, he has got to throw to someone right?  Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce are long gone so Donnie, by default, has to make some plays.  Bradford has a great arm and hes gonna test from time to time.

Dallas Cowboys

Marion Barber was everyones pick to break into the top 4 or 5 running backs in the NFL when Julius Jones left and Barber would be THE guy for the cowboys.  His fantasy value actually fell off when he was the main guy.  Now that Felix Jones appears to be the feature guy in Dallas, Barber’s value should rise again with loading up on TDs and get a lot of late game carries when he is fresh.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Every season Hines Ward gets overlooked.  Hes not flashy, hes not big, hes not super fast.  But he just gets it done.  Few of you reading this (including myself) would realize that Ward caught 96 passes last season for over 1,100 yards and 6 TDs.  Please don’t overlook this guy again.

Denver Broncos

Dez Bryant is getting all the headlines and pub coming into this season but Demaryius Thomas in some scouts eyes was higher on their board then the high profile rookie out of OK state.  Denver’s clear cut number one WR (Marshall) is now in Miami so you know Denver has to have confidence in the Georgia Tech standout Thomas to get rid of a young great WR.

Philadelphia Eagles

Jeremy Maclin was looked at as a product of the college game when he was an absolute stud at Missouri.  He proved his critics wrong last season with the Eagles.  In just his first season Maclin went for 55 rec, 762 yds, and 4 TDs.  Andy Reid loves to throw the ball and the Eagles running game is not like it was with Westbrook.  Maclin should only improve upon those numbers and may score more fantasy points then teammate DeSean Jackson who will be selected many rounds ahead of this sleeping Eagle.

Detroit Lions

Matthew Stafford, barrying injury, will play his first full 16 game season this year.  in just 10 games last year he threw for over 2,000 yards and 13 TDs.  Simple projection has a full season at about 3,700 yards and 23 TDs.  Not a bad season.  The Lions may not win too many games again, and again, and again.  But their QB may win you some fantasy games as you spend your early round picks getting top ranked RBs and WRs and take a late round pick on Stafford.

Good, not the best, guys to draft from each NFL team pt. 2

Posted by mvetack on August 16, 2010

Carolina Panthers

Matt Moore is halfway out the door according to the media with the drafting of Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen.  Like the great Lee Corso I say, “Not so fast my friend”.  Matt Moore took over as the Panthers quarterback and started for 5 games last year.  All he did was throw for 8 TDs, 2 INTs, and 1,053 yds including two 3 TD games.  Yes Clausen is the known name out of South Bend but Matt Moore will start as QB and unless the Panthers fall apart early, he should be there for the entire 16 games.

Seattle Seahawks

Golden Tate could be this years Percy Harvin.  The smaller receiver with lots of speed and great skills after the catch.  Pete Carrol will certainly find ways to get the ball to the rookie whether it is running the ball, catching the ball, special teams or all of the above.  Golden Tate will definately get his chance to get you fantasy points on a weekly basis.

Chicago Bears

Chester Taylor is the best running back in the NFL that is not a number 1 guy.  He could probably start for 25% of the teams in the league but he remains a great number 2 guy, this year in Chicago.  Last year Matt Forte had a huge sophomore slide and this year they pay Taylor big money to bring him in.  Forte and the Bears offense overall stunk, mostly because of terrible offensive line play.  Forte should still start and get the bulk of the snaps, but Taylor isn’t making big money to ride the pine.

San Francisco 49ers

Michael Crabtree finally ended his hold out and joined the 49ers on Sundays in week 7.  In the 11 games that Crabtree appeared in he went over 50 yards and caught 4 or more passes in 9 of them.  Crabtree should only get better with Alex Smith progressing nicely and having a full year of sitting in training camp instead of out.

Cincinnati Bengals

Terrell Owens picked finally got picked up by the Bengals and will lineup with Ochocinco on Sundays this season.  The Bengals have transformed their style of football into heavy doses of running and smash mouth defense but still have to throw the ball from time to time.  Carson Palmer is a great QB and TO can still play.  Already in preseason Palmer has targeted Owens enough to get any TO owner excited.  With defenders switching on Ochocinco and Owens neither should have a giant season but both should have a productive one.

San Diego Chargers

Ryan Mathews is just a rookie but someone has to replace Tomlinson now that hes a Jet.  And Sproles does not seem to be the every down back that fans were hoping for.
